This course will examine econometric studies of innovation, with an emphasis on understanding economic and strategic issues. This course will include studies of innovative conduct by firms and users. The course will cover topics, such as the consequences for markets from the diffusion of new technology, the relationship between incentives to innovation and competition, the causes and consequences of patenting behavior, transfers of technical knowledge across firm boundaries, and empirical studies of Schumpeterian competition.
