Wine is a culturally iconic product that has embedded in its rich history lessons of trade,
economics, marketing, finance, operations, and entrepreneurism. The complexity and lure
of wine have challenged many, and its successful production requires more than science
and art, namely astute business skill. This class will be focused on the impact of business
principles in the wine industry and through examination of the global wine industry, how
key aspects of global commerce, trade, marketing, and economics impact the industry.
The focus on leading wine regions of the world provides an opportunity to explore the
relevant viticulture realities of specific regions and explore the diversity of wine across
