This course will provide students an opportunity to exercise their ¿problem solving muscles¿ real time, exploring how to short circuit the path from problem statement to identifying helpful frameworks to analytic insight to practical recommendation. It builds a direct path from their academic learning into real world problem solving. This broad based skill is obviously core to any post MBA careers, but will be especially central in many professional environments such as consulting, investment banking, private equity.
The key ingredient of the class is on ¿action ¿ learning¿: we will create an immersive learning experience that first teaches/refreshes a handful of core problem solving frameworks and then applies them immediately in a ¿real company¿ setting. At the core of this class is the direct working relationship with the CEO¿s of two of Chicago¿s own recent start up success stories: Eric Belcher of Innerworkings (www.inwk.com) and Jai Shehkawat of Fieldglass (www.fieldglass.com). We will work closely with them and key members of their senior teams on problems that are relevant to their performance. Note: This course may not be dropped after the first week of the quarter.
